Event Information (3 - 4 May 2025)

The London Shogi Club will host a Shogi Event on 3-4 May 2025. This event is open to players of all abilities and of all nationalities. 

We will be joined by Nihon Shogi Renmei/Japanese Shogi association teaching professionals Yasushi Ishikawa and Sanada Tetsuaki.

It will be a combined Tournament and Teaching Event. The main tournament will be hosted on Saturday 3rd May, with Sunday 4th May having a teaching focus - though we will also have a smaller blitz tournment.

We will also be arranging a dinner on the Saturday night. Please let us know if you wish to attend this when you register to help us plan numbers.

Saturday 3rd May

Provisional schedule

5 round Swiss-based Tournament (20 mins with 40 seconds byo-yomi)

10:00 - 10:30 Introductory lecture by Ishikawa sensei
10:30 - 13:00 Rounds 1 & 2
13:00 - 13:30 Lunch break
13:30 - 18:00 Rounds 3 - 5

Sunday 4th May

10:00 - 11:00Explaining games by Ishikawa and Sanada(Games played previous day & games recently played by professional players)
11:10 - 12:30Blitz tournament & teaching games by Ishikawa & Sanada
12:30 - 13:30 Lunch break
13:30 - 14:30Special lecture by Ishikawa(introducing recent interesting opening studies by professional players)
14:40-15:50Q & A session

London Mindsports Center, 21 Dalling Rd, London W6 0JD

The nearest tube station is Ravenscourt Park. The two Hammersmith stations are a bit further away.  It takes 30-50 minutes to get to the venue from the main London railway stations, and 40 minutes from Heathrow airport.

2024 British Shogi Championship Result

Results Steven Cain is the 2024 British Shogi Champion with a perfect score in the championships.  Close behind him, Felix McPeake took a clear second place.  3rd, 4th and 5th were level on points, and went to Richard Haas, Kotaro Hirota and Kevin Butchart respectively.
